I believe in the process of listening and helping another person reach their goals. Therapy can be life changing and the therapeutic relationship is a powerful one in supporting clients to learn, grow, heal and create changes. I believe that all clients have within them the ability to reach their potential and that people heal when they feel heard. The right mix of gentle challenge and supportive warmth from a therapist can help people come back from even the most stuck places. My journey to become a therapist began after a career in education and witnessing first-hand the healing power that having an understanding supporter could make to someone’s life. Like you, I’ve also experienced issues like stress, burnout, breakups, life changes and the bumpy ride of uncovering my own strengths and weaknesses. Therapy is not for the faint hearted and I’m thankful I get to do this work with clients. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to accompany you on your path to find your authentic self.
Why do you think integrative therapy is the most effective form of therapy?
Integrative therapy allows me to have the creativity to meet your needs, as I will use materials and ideas from many approaches to help you. Every client is different, much like a fingerprint, where no two are ever the same. The background of my training is with three core approaches; person centred to enable you to achieve your potential, CBT to help uncover thinking habits that hold you back, and psychodynamic therapy to help you explore patterns in your childhood or relationships where the present is being influenced by the past. We can use the right mix of therapies to help you get what you need. There are other areas in my helping toolkit, such as self-compassion to help you develop a kinder way of talking to yourself, or creative therapies to help you express feelings, if you wish. What we will mainly do is talk, and with your permission we may at times bring in other ideas.
How would you describe your therapy session & approach?
Our therapy session will be warm and open – a place where you feel safe to be yourself and speak honestly. At the start, we will consider some goals that you would like to work towards and then we’ll talk about what these changes would look and feel like. Together we’ll explore your strengths and anything holding you back, which may be your thinking habits or past events that you might want to unpack in our sessions. The focus will be client-led, so the pace and the content is completely unique and up to you. Some clients find that they feel better after just a few sessions and others wish to carry out longer and deeper work – you can choose what’s right for you. Past clients have described me as being attentive, and curious to find out more about you. During our sessions my role will be as a positive supporter, helping you find and grow your confidence, by your side, as you uncover patterns and gain knowledge about yourself and your life. All feelings are welcome here and together we will work for your benefit to help you create the changes you want.
