About Ben

I am a friendly experienced BACP Accredited Counsellor and Counselling Psychologist (in Training) who operates from a fully serviced office close to Manchester's Piccadilly Station. I have, since I was very young, been interested in what makes people tick and that is why I chose Psychology as my first degree. After a stint as an Army Officer and then a Recruitment Consultant I landed back in the world of counselling and psychology by joining an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Work based counselling organisation. I worked in that industry for over 13 years before branching out as a private practitioner counsellor, having gained my counselling qualifications some years earlier.

My main areas of speciality have traditionally been counselling in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT), Human Rights (with victims of torture/serious trauma) and Workplace arenas (EAP) but I have counselled outside of these with young people (14 and older) and Groups as well.

I work with 6-12 sessions and then review with my clients. This is to get a focus on the work. I do work with some of my clients in an open-ended way.

I find working with people on their mental health a rich and deeply rewarding experience even almost twenty years after I started as a therapist so I would love to accompany you on your journey.

Always happy to have a free initial consultation/assessment to see whether we are a fit and then take things from there.

Why did you choose to become a therapist?

I have always been fascinated by human psychology and therapy is one of the purest forms of applied psychology there is. Helping people overcome their barriers and obstacles or even just assisting with a greater understanding of themselves has really given my life meaning.

Why do you think integrative therapy is the most effective form of therapy?

Because it is moulded to fit the client rather than the other way round. I am really proud to be an integrative therapist not least when clients say how much they like the flexible approach having fallen foul of the 'one size fits all' approach they might have experienced prior.

How would you describe your therapy session & approach?

My therapy sessions are organised and oriented around client goals with deep dives into origins, causation and a focus on practical solutions to the issues at hand.

What are your Top 3 professional achievements so far?

I have presented a webinar on anxiety to an Australian Girls school forum I lecture on aspects of psychology to undergraduate and postgraduate students I have published texts in 2 seperate books on counselling psychology and coaching
