Why did you choose to become a therapist?

My counselling journey began during my time as a Senior Mental Health Social Worker when I discovered that many clients needed someone to talk to about their worries. I trained for 3 years to become an Integrative Counsellor. I once had counselling for stress at work - I knew nothing about counselling then, but was surprised and put off by the brusque therapist who had little empathy. Because of that I attended only 2 sessions, but it helped me realise that counsellors need to be kind and empathic with clients.

Why do you think integrative therapy is the most effective form of therapy?

I think that Integrative Therapy is the most effective form as it is so versatile. I tend to use Person Centredness, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy (also known as Brief Therapy). So far most of my clients have really liked the mix of being able to talk about their issues along with CBT techniques to help them start to feel mentally better.

How would you describe your therapy session & approach?

I like to make therapy sessions as calm and pleasant as possible. During the first session I will ask you what brings you to counselling and how you will know that you are benefitting from therapy. My style is empathic and person centred so that you, as my client, feel as comfortable as possible during your sessions.

What are your Top 3 professional achievements so far?

1. Gaining an advanced diploma in Integrative Counselling. 2. Starting my private practice and seeing it grow. 3. Gaining my honours degree in Social Work.
