About Janine

I qualified as a Psychodynamic counsellor in 2010 and have since completed further training in a Level 5 Diploma in CBT and Solution Focused Training. I have worked with adults and young people around anxiety, depression, work related stress, survivors of narcissistic and domestic abuse and survivors of sexual and criminal exploitation.
I also work with couples who are experiencing difficulties in their relationship and feel counselling would support them in resolving personal conflicts and improve their relationship.
After experiencing 15 years of narcissistic abuse in a previous relationship as well as childhood I developed my passion for specialising in this area and working with survivors of narcissistic abuse. If you have been in a romantic relationship or experienced narcissistic abuse from a family member, friend or work colleague you may be feeling exhausted, confused, overwhelmed and scared by everything that is or has happened. Counselling can help you make sense of your experience and work with you to find yourself again and to set personal boundaries to enable you to move forward in life with confidence.

Why did you choose to become a therapist?

I have always worked in roles with people to support them to make changes they wanted to make and I originally trained as a therapist to help me understand the clients I worked with to support them better. Once I was completing my placement I realised how much I loved working in the therapy room with clients and seeing them make the changes was so rewarding. I love my job and I have been so lucky to work with some amazing clients and I continue to do this every day.

Why do you think integrative therapy is the most effective form of therapy?

Every client is unique and there is not a one size fits all approach. using different elements of integrated therapy helps the client to get the most out of their sessions.

How would you describe your therapy session & approach?

In our first session we will explore together why you are seeking counselling and what your aims are. Counselling for you may consist of setting future goals, exploring your past and difficulties you have had or it may a space for you to share your thoughts and feelings and validate your experiences and how they have made or continue to make you feel. If goal setting is your aim a mixture of CBT and Solution Focused therapy can be used in the sessions, with you taking responsibility for setting your goals. CBT therapy includes us working in collaboration and agreeing a treatment plan so that you can get the most of out the therapy sessions. If you prefer a safe space to share your feelings and work through them during our sessions then that is something we can do together. You as the client are the expert in your own life and therefore I will, as the therapist support you in understanding and validating your feelings.

What are your Top 3 professional achievements so far?

Setting up my own private practice and being brave enough to go it alone. Designing and producing my own website which still amazes me now that I had the ability to do that! Furthering my training and qualifying in CBT in January 2021.
