    Frequently asked questions

Is a mental health coach the same as a therapist?

No. A therapist is trained and registered to treat diagnosable conditions. A mental health coach supports structure, habits and self management, and refers to a registered clinician when treatment is needed.

Do I need to be registered to work as a mental health coach in the UK?

There is no protected register for coaches. Credible employers ask for accredited coach training, mental health specific CPD, supervision and insurance, plus a documented risk and escalation process.
