Do I need to be a psychiatrist to assess ADHD in the UK?
No. ADHD assessment is carried out by psychiatrists, but also by clinical psychologists and suitably trained specialist nurses working within a defined clinical governance framework. Prescribing medication does require a prescriber.
Can ADHD assessment work be done remotely?
Yes. Most UK private ADHD assessments are delivered by video, with rating scales and collateral history collected beforehand. Many roles are fully remote or one clinic day a week.
What is the difference between an ADHD assessor and an ADHD therapist?
An assessor reaches a diagnostic conclusion. A therapist supports the person afterwards with strategies, coaching-style structure and treatment for co-occurring anxiety or low mood, and does not diagnose.
