FAQs
Where do I start if I think I have ADHD?
Start with our free ADHD screening. It takes five minutes, uses the same validated questions clinicians use, and tells you whether a full private assessment is worth pursuing.
How long does a private ADHD assessment take?
From booking to written report is usually two to six weeks with a Take a Seat clinician. NHS waits are three to ten years in most regions.
Will a private ADHD diagnosis be accepted by my GP?
Yes when the clinician is GMC-registered and follows NICE guidance. Shared-care prescribing (your GP continues the prescription on the NHS) is at your GP and ICB's discretion.
Written by Take a Seat Editorial. Checked against the published sources below, and not against a clinician's individual review. Last checked 8 August 2026.
